The whole domain of computing introduced electronic commutation with the advent of semiconductor transistors by Beldin (1947–48) and then bipolar transistors by Shockley (1949) at Bell Laboratory. Since the invention of the first IC (integrated circuit) as a flip-flop by Jack Kilby in 1958, according to Moore’s Law, our ability to pack more and more transistors on a single chip has almost doubled every 18 months. . Such exponential growth was never seen in any other field and is still a major area of ​​research work.

History and development

The development of microelectronics is a period of time, which is less than the average life expectancy of humans, and has so far been seen as four generations. The early 60s saw low-density manufacturing processes classified under Small-Density Integration (SSI), with transistor counts limited to about 10.. This fast paved the way for medium-scale integration in the late 60s when about 100 transistors could be placed.

This was the time when research costs began to decline and private firms began to enter into competition unlike earlier years, where the main burden was borne by the military. Transistor-transistor logic (TTL) offers higher integration densities that outperform other IC families such as ECL which became the basis of the first integrated circuit revolution. It was the production of this family that encouraged semiconductor giants such as Texas Instruments, Fairchild and National Semiconductors. In the seventies the count of transistors increased by about 1000 per chip, called mass integration.

After this development in the VLSI industry, electronics or digital devices will become completely cheap and we will no longer need to depend on other countries for our products and technology. In contrast, other countries will be able to use our technology and buy electronics products made by India.
